| It had been quite some time for me not to update my blog. I wish Ramadhan almubarak and Salam Eidul Fitri Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir Batin to all muslims and chess friends, readers. After defeating Selangor 4-0 in the 1st round of the winners' pool group, we had a bye as we were scheduled to meet the PDRM which we had met in the preliminary group stage. I had the feeling that, if Shamsudin is fielded against Nor Azmi, he is unlikely able to cope the tricky Nor Azmi's, while NM Kamalarifin 's tendency to draw with Hashim may bring us into an uncomfortable situation. In this cae I must face the positional player Abd Rahim Ramli which I had a very good record ( From 3 meetings: 2 won and we drew in our last encounted at Kuching 2003). Therefore, in this situation Rizal Jusah or Hairul had to face Indera Syahrin who seemed to be the key factor to determine whether KL or Terengganu would win in this encounter. That's not a good strategy or at least a convincing one. Therefore I proposed to the manager Hassan and coach Mr Abd Latif Sifu, to field Kamal who may able to hold Nor Azmi without much trouble and myself to face Hashim. I myself do not claim that I have the better chance against my opponent, but I think the element of surprise may play its role. The chances maybe 50-50 but unlike the 50-50 as in the clash between Kamal and Hashim ever took place. Rizal Jusah, I predict, he should be able to withstand Abd Rahim Ramli's Sicilian closed as I had the chance to help him doing his last minute preparation. Furthermore, Rizal Jusah must have a good confident in himself at least for the start as during his encounter with the same player in the last year's MAKSAK, he almost 'caught' Abd Rahim but slipped his chance. Lastly, Hairulov's experience maybe useful to stop the new star Indera Syahrin. It turned out that only my board brought up a point (for KL) while the other boards ended up with fighting draws. Therefore our strategy had worked. | CATUR MAKSWIP 2011 It is confirmed that the actual date for the MAKSWIP Chess Tournamanet shall be on the 9th and 10th of July 2011. Again and again and again, I shall lead the Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM) team to give our best shot to wrest the gold medal from the reigning champion since 2000 DBKL. JDKM had been always becoming the runner up (except in 2005- 3rd place lost half point to Kementerian Kerja Raya) since 2003 until last year. CATUR MAKSAK 2011 This means the most awaited event for the government chess players, shall be about 2 weeks, that is from 22nd to 24th of July in Perak. With the largest number of teams (total 15) participating since 1999, and 264 games, with efforts, electricity bills, the increasing price of the inkjet for the mastercopy and printing cost, I think RM25.00 nett is a fair and reasonable price for a copy of this historic event.

The latest news is, the buletin is in the process of printing at the shop and shall be available in the market from 19th December onwards. The buletin is in the form of gum-binding and the price is RM25.00. It includes all the 264 games (The biggest number of games since 2003) played in 12 rounds during the last Catur MAKSAK 2010 held in Puteri Park Kuala Lumpur

The complete record of this event shall be in available in the market after the Christmas. Anyway, I shall try to do my best to make it available before the Christmas, probably on the 24th, so that anyone who intends to purchase it, can have this during the coming Malay Open on the 26thb of December. The buletin is also in the format of gum-binding and the price is RM 20.00. 168 games were keyed in into this buletin.

THE END OF THE CHESS OLYMPIAD 2010
I had not been writing at my blog for about 1 month, simply not because I was too lazy to write, instead I was too busy with my normal life (non-chess matters: working, fasting of Syawal, visiting my relatives and my wife relatives in conjunction with the Syawal Eid Fitri) Syawal is approaching to its end, and so was the Chess Olympiad which had closed its curtain recently. I enjoyed my bloggers colleagues' chess covevarage, all sorts of news and Mas' Nokia Gambit incident.
Meanwhile, I had almost finished the recent SUKAN KEWANGAN 2010 buletin, (with only a few games to be keyed in) and I expect it to be ready in the market in about 2 weeks time. As regards to the MAKSAK, due to my extreme time constrain, I had just finished up to round 3 (There are 8 more rounds to go).
For chess enthusiasts especially from the government sectors which involved in chess (MAKSAK and SUKAN KEWANGAN) may call / sms to me for further information.

THE MAKSAK CHESS PAST CHAMPIONS AND HOST
I had been playing for KUALA LUMPUR in MAKSAK Chess Tournament since 1999 a year after being employed by the Customs Department. For the history purpose, here I present the table featuring all the hosts and the psst champions and vice champions. If anybody finds any fault about the fact above, please email to me for correction. As far as I concerned this is the best that I could recall.

Alhamdulillah!
That's the best description for KL team, comprises of myself as the captain, NM Kamalarifin Wahiduddin, Mohd Zambri Mohd Shariff, Azman Hisham Che Doi (The father of the prominent siblings WCM and WFM Nur Najiha and Nur Nabila, not to forget Mohd Nabil) and 2 new and formidable face, Shamsudin Mat Isa and Muhammad Rizal Jusah, not to forget, our provocative manager, Hassan, and all the MAKSWIP managment, including Abang Zul (Zulkifly Md Din) and Mr Zaini.
Also, thank you for the smooth conduct of the progress of the tournament by the IA Ibrahim Yaacob and his son, son in law and daughter. (Despite some critics and complaint made openly, I think it is not a major flaw)
My conclusion is, we won the MAKSAK Chess Championship in KL (The last time we won was in MAKSAK 2006 at KL) due to a few factors:-
1. We field 2 Rizals in our team (Well this is only symbolic)
2. I suppose we have the better preparation. This year, we even had set the line up before hand and even set who will play who (using the prediction bases on the previous database).
3. We even tried to analyse and discuss deeply, besides our favourite openings, the variation which may surface when meeting particular players.
4. We also played a few blitz (but cannot be too much as blitz will usually spoils the game) to prepare for the time trouble circumstances, and the blitz games were limited to our openig preparation only.
5. A few of us also listen to the DVDs / videos presentation available from the net by the GMs.
6. We possess the best team spirit, and confidence.
Below is my last game from the tournament this year with my arch rival Md Anis Rahimi of Kelantan. As usual, I face an unpregnable fortress position which made me think a lot and in the end suffers an extreme time trouble. But during the blitz mode, the fortune (as before this) shines with me and won by a checkmate using a pawn

MAKSAK 2010 IN KL?
It's been a long break since my last write on this blog. Not that I did not want to write, but I simply have nothing special to write. The abundance of local chess blogers had made sufficient coverage for the consumption of chess enthusiasts (including me). There is not much point to write things that had been well covered by others.
I am actually completing my current project keying in the previous Catur MAKSAK which was held at Kota Bharu on the 17 & 18 July 2009. The buletin shall be available in the market very soon and I expect the cost would be around RM15-20 (still cannot determine the exact price).
In this limited scope, I cannot stop myself from publishing a very short game of mine against a player from Johore. I had met him 2 times previously. The first meeting, I had the advantage, but failed to notch the winning point and ended with a draw. The 2nd meeting was worse, when, I, despite having to sacrifice some materials, gained a very strong attack but yet, in time trouble, failed to notice my opponent's Rook was en prise and lost the exciting game. This time, I won very quickly, not because I set the trap, but because my opponent played into it.

This year, I am looking forward to play in the coming Catur MAKSAK 2010 which, according to some reliable sources would be held in KL. It is the 3rd time KL hosted this during my involvement in catur MAKSAK (1st in 2000 and 2nd in 2006). I hope my colleagues will be sufficiently prepare to wrest the title of champion as we (KL) won it for the last time in 2006 after having won it 2 in a row (2003 and 2005 - no Catur MAKSAK being organised in 2004)
It's been a long break since my last write on this blog. Not that I did not want to write, but I simply have nothing special to write. The abundance of local chess blogers had made sufficient coverage for the consumption of chess enthusiasts (including me). There is not much point to write things that had been well covered by others.I am actually completing my current project keying in the previous Catur MAKSAK which was held at Kota Bharu on the 17 & 18 July 2009. The buletin shall be available in the market very soon and I expect the cost would be around RM15-20 (still cannot determine the exact price).
In this limited scope, I cannot stop myself from publishing a very short game of mine against a player from Johore. I had met him 2 times previously. The first meeting, I had the advantage, but failed to notch the winning point and ended with a draw. The 2nd meeting was worse, when, I, despite having to sacrifice some materials, gained a very strong attack but yet, in time trouble, failed to notice my opponent's Rook was en prise and lost the exciting game. This time, I won very quickly, not because I set the trap, but because my opponent played into it.

I actually had witnessed Nasrul played in this move order a few years back in MAKSAK Kuching 2003 even though at that time I still did not produce the complete buletin for MAKSAK chess games. However, later in our encounter, Nasrul surprisingly (for me) played 1...e5! and the Ruy Lopez Zaitsev was discussed.

Otherwise, Nasrul would trick me into playing the accelerated dragon without giving me the chance to use Dr John Nunn's prescription, the Marockzy bind formation

This year, I am looking forward to play in the coming Catur MAKSAK 2010 which, according to some reliable sources would be held in KL. It is the 3rd time KL hosted this during my involvement in catur MAKSAK (1st in 2000 and 2nd in 2006).
