PESTA SUKAN KEWANGAN 2011

This year, the Royal Customs of Malaysia shall be the host of the FINANCE SPORTS. Chess will be among the games to be competed between the 8 agencies under the Ministry of finance. I am not yet informed about the exact date or venue, but the Customs chess players shall be following a special course which includes the centralized training in our AKADEMI KASTAM MALAYSIA (AKMAL) in Malacca for aboout 2 to 3 weeks. Our preparation shall be based on all the databases of chess gathered from the previous Chess competition, mainly the FINANCE SPORTS (Chess) itself.

The buletin for the previous tournament (2010) is still available for sale at RM25.00 and the coaches shall have a clear guideline for "how to begin the training" or shall I rephrase "What is the guidelinebasis for our team's preparation"

Also available is the reprinted edition of SUKAN KEWANGAN 2002 (hosted by Customs) and 2003 (hosted by KWSP) at RM 10.00 each editions.

The preparation based on previous games database is the standard weapon in modern chess which is very essential and effective in order to upgrade the quality of a player's game while at the same time, increases the chances to net the valuable point.

Except.. you want to play the crude systems such as...

 ... THE ORANG UTAN OPENING!!
Well, in that case, you are on your own world... in your on jungle... of theories

THE END OF THE CHESS OLYMPIAD 2010

I had not been writing at my blog for about 1 month, simply not because I was too lazy to write, instead I was too busy with my normal life (non-chess matters: working, fasting of Syawal, visiting my relatives and my wife relatives in conjunction with the Syawal Eid Fitri) Syawal is approaching to its end, and so was the Chess Olympiad which had closed its curtain recently. I enjoyed my bloggers colleagues' chess covevarage, all sorts of news and Mas' Nokia Gambit incident.

Meanwhile, I had almost finished the recent SUKAN KEWANGAN 2010 buletin, (with only a few games to be keyed in) and I expect it to be ready in the market in about 2 weeks time. As regards to the MAKSAK, due to my extreme time constrain, I had just finished up to round 3 (There are 8 more rounds to go).

For chess enthusiasts especially from the government sectors which involved in chess (MAKSAK and SUKAN KEWANGAN) may call / sms to me for further information.

SUKAN KEWANGAN 2010

After a mediocre result from the 3rd DATCC League and disastrous 4/9 score from the recent National Closed, I see my FIDE rating had dropped 5 points to below 2000. It seemed that, I should stop playing chess after all. However, being a customs officer, I had no excuse from taking the responsibility to play on board no.1 for my department (Jabatan Kastam) in the recent Sukan Kewangan which were held at DATCC from 14 to 16th July 2010. The most bitter rivals on board one were among others, the experienced Goh Teck Koon (KWSP) and Abang Mohd Reduan (BSN - also MAKSAK Sarawak board no.1 player). Fortunately I did not have to add another headache facing the father of the 2 siblings WCM and WFM, Azman Hisham Che Doi of Securities Commisioners due to his busy of managing his daughters who are playing abroad for the country.

Sincerely speaking, I was happy to make a draw against them and would be trying to beat the other who are not as strong as the mentioned rivals. Incidentally, I only managed to draw against NM Kamalarifin Wahiduddin (DBKL) and Mohd Fahmi (LHDN) in the MAKSWIP Chess Tournament 2010, that was a few days before the SUKAN KEWANGAN.

It turned up unexpectedly pleasant achievement. I scored the full 7 points including victories against Goh Teck Koon and Abang Mohd Reduan.

GACC 2005

Currently, I am doing the keying in games from the old scoresheets of GACC2005. Some notable local chess player involved are Ng Siew Cheok, Lee Boon Why, Gerald Soh and Effahrin Mohd Farid, all from UM.

I think, it shall take about a month to finish all the games (about 480). This is because, I am only able to do this job very early in the morning (about 5 am until the Subuh prayer time..about 6 o'clock) or sometimes during the midnight, about 12 am to 2 am.

Sukan Kewangan 2010

The latest update from Lau Kah Heng of Bank Negara (BNM) was that, all the Department under the Ministry of Finance shall have 8 players (6 playing and 2 reserve per round) and the gender is not an issue as all the team can field any number of male or female in every round.

SUKAN KEWANGAN 2010

I received a news from Roslan Jais (KWSP chess and dart manager) saying that, this year, Sukan Kewangan which shall be hosted by Bank Negara shall includes chess as one of its games. The last time chess has been included was 2004 when KWSP was the host and simultaneously defended their title as the champion.

(Picture and logo of BNM taken from the web via google image search for illustrative purpose)

I involved with this event for the first time in 2002 when BSN as the favourite easily clinched the gold medal. However, in 2003, they lost their title to KWSP when Customs Department hosted this event. Meanwhile, as for the Customs, we (myself and my team mates) mantain our status quo as the silver medalist for 3 consercutive years. The last time however, most of the best board winners were from the Customs (including me on board one ahead of Abang Mohd Reduan of BSN - he lost to Mohd Rozali of LHDN).

Our main problem is however, to find a strong female player that not only strong but willing to learn and play chess for the Customs Department. It is extremely difficult to find even one female from Customs which fulfills this criteria. Unless, the host decided not to make fielding a female player as a compulsory, than this shall be a real chance to wrest the gold medal for us.

On the contrary, making such term, not compulsory to field a female player shall kill the career or at least the progress of some female chess players from certain departments under Ministry of Finance.

I actually prefer to put such condition where the female has their place in chess.

Here is one of a fine victory for me

With this "refreshment" I hope all Customs Department chess player will wake up from their long hibernation and put only one target, to clinch the gold medal for the first time.
